Ain't No Mtn High Enough; My first trail race

Do I look happy? You bet your tushie I am! 11 miles of trouble, and they weren't kidding at the Londonderry, VT Collaborative, who sponsored this inaugral trail run. Let me say I shall return next year (unless of course I move to Hawaii).

The first 4 mi were rugged rocky wide flat, trails right along the West River. It was spectacular although hot and muggy (I really wanted to jump in the river). I felt a slow elevation climb and knew the single track, "into the woods" trail was coming up. And there it was, a friggin' steep climb with mud and rocks. I was quietly swearing and pissed because I run hills why is this so hard?? I climbed, traversed, scampered, slid in mud, tripped on tree roots. It was crazy!! Up, down, across small streams...REPEAT!!!

I caught up to 2 runners and ended up leading the way. Once we were "out of the woods" 4 mi later, we had to run up and over a dam which had a criss cross steep path down the other side! Oy...then another climb, until FINALLY, a straight 2 mi path along river to a camp ground.
My friends were waiting at the finish line and people cheering, I couldn't speak. I was verklemp (yiddish for choked up) and drenched! My body ached (and still does). My quads burned but my heart and soul beamed (and still is).

PRODUCT REVIEW: Seger Sense "friction relief"  socks rocked (made in Sweden). They kept my feet dry, cool, and blister free. They are comfortable and feel snug like a compression sock. I was trying out the mid rise sock and although it's not my preference style, for this run it was perfect! I wore them with my Saucony's mid week, then with my New Balance trail shoes. Both times felt comfortable in sneakers without bulk and you can put them in the dryer (although suggested drip dry and stretch). So check them out either in a running store or online www.seger.se

Dreaming of the next trail.....wherever it will take me.

Happily driving home!
