I love visiting my guy in Buzzards Bay, the Gateway to Cape Cod called Wareham. He lives in a lovely area with windy roads, small beaches, a quaint golf course, and a various crew of nature creatures. So I've encountered a pack of coyotes, a darting deer, a HUGE snapping turtle making his way across the road, a large black snake coiled up on the side of the road, and a vicious dog on his way to attack. What's my weapon of choice? A high pitched whistle, a stick, or a small rope (used as a whip).
BUT who's ready for drivers who think it's fun to drive you off the road? Drivers who decide, "HMMM...let's see how close I can get to this runner or cyclist, so they have to jump in a bush or run into a tree." Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how many times I yell or warn them (HEY....I HAVE YOUR LICENSE NUMBER)....it's the same drivers in the hood! Yes, I have whacked the trunk of a few cars who I have recognized on many occassions. People have come out of their houses checking on me. One car stopped, I recited license plate and warned that I will go to the police, and that was the end of that, and YES....I have seen that car again, as they take a wide turn to stay away from me. I am telling you.....I run against traffic and ride with it. I try my hardest to stay off the road and run on peoples' lawns unfortunately to move. I stop sometimes too to let people pass by.
Yes, folks, for a picturesque neighborhood, you have to be on guard. Should I yell? Maybe not, but I can't help it. Needless to say, it's no wonder I haven't run around there in a few years. It's a shame, because IT IS lovely. I just figured I'd give another try. Oh well.....LA-DEE-DAH!
On that note, I've passed the 500 mile mark for miles run this year! Yahoo! I've taken a few days off from Planking because my back has been bothering me.
This weekend, Brian and I will do the Warrior Dash with our "Homies"Carrie, Amy, and Erin.....among other people. We'll miss Nancy though!
NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! I have my knee pads, just wish I had the brain and said no to this event!
Also, I have pink eyeblock strips....very cool! For the Homies, except Brian won't be wearing the pink strips!
Finally, Boston has "Stanley" and we are very proud!
Yikes! Unfortunately, I have had to kick a few doors myself over the years. Jerks!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your Homies - yay Bruins!
I can only imagine you yelling at the cars!!! Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was doing the dash with you all....well then again not really but I would love to see you all minus the jumping over fire! Are you wearing those shirts?
